SOUTH LYON, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Sweet Stuff Shoppe gets sweet reviews. After more than 60,000 sales on Etsy, it has five stars. The home-based business in South Lyon sells baking supplies, such as silkscreens, that many professional bakers buy for corporate orders.

“It gives a nice crisp image of the company logo,” said Donna Rabe, who makes the custom supplies right in her home.

She has equipment to make cookie cutters in almost any shape you could imagine.

“I print custom cookie cutters and you can see it is printing a Christmas tree right now for somebody,” she says as she gives us a look at her craft room.

Lately, she is dealing with something she is not too used to. Some Sweet Stuff Shoppe customers are not too sweet about what they are experiencing.

They are calling, wanting action because the U.S. Postal Service is taking longer than its advertised average in some cases to deliver.

Rabe has posted a notice about the delays she is seeing on her site to prepare customers.

“I can have 10 people message me about their packages not getting to them and they need it. And all I can do is track it just like they track it,” she said

She says for example she sent out one order in Priority Mail on November 30th. It is scheduled to arrive at its destination on December 12th, much later than typical with Priority Mail.

The United States Postal Services gave us a statement saying, “The Postal Service has experienced a considerable increase in package volume. In response to this, we are utilizing our available resources to match the workload created by the impacts of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We appreciate the patience of our customers and the efforts of employees as conditions change on a day-to-day basis.”

“There are a lot of people out with the virus and that takes away from their manpower,” said Rabe of what she has heard as she talks to USPS workers.

Donna Rabe says she is sharing her experience just so we all can prepare as we place orders this holiday season.

“I have a lot of compassion for the people that are doing what they are doing so just be patient. Everybody needs to be patient,” she said.
