(WXYZ) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer said getting the state's COVID-19 case positivity rate down to 3% is possible to do by Dec. 8.

Currently, the governor said the rate stands at 14%.
"If we can get this moving in the right direction, it's very possible," she said.
She said it's all dependent on Michigan residents doing their part.
"That's the thing we can't quantify and predict accurately," she said.
The state is using the 3% rate as a benchmark to highlight where it stood throughout most of the summer, through contained spread.
However, cases are spreading rapidly throughout the state; Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said the public health system is becoming overwhelmed.
"We flattened the curve in the spring by listening to public health and medical experts," Whitmer said. "We can do this again. You have the power to help us push this curve down. Every one of us has the power to make choices to contribute to that."
