Overdue library books were the reason a couple was in court today.
Cathy and Melvin Duren from Lenawee County have been charged with failing to return rental property.
The couple admitted to ignoring late notices, but say they never thought it would land them in front of a judge.
Their teen son lost a book he'd checked out in 2014--and a book checked out last April was just returned in January.
The couple offered to pay for the lost book and the late fees, but back-tracked when prosecutors ordered them to pay an additional $210.
Last Friday, officers arrived to arrest them.
They paid the bond to avoid jail.
