DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit-based company Shinola, known for its watches and leather goods, is now offering love locks for couples who want to display their love.
Couples can engrave the locks with their partner's initials and their own, and then pin the locks on a fence in Parker's Alley. The custom-designed locks, which retail for $25 at the downtown Shinola store, include a Shinola watch dial inspired charm. The locks are manufactured by local company Commando Lock Company.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Shinola on such a creative project for their hotel and also for the city of Detroit,” Commando Lock CEO Matthew Damman said in a press release. “We’re also proud that the quality of our Detroit-made Commando Locks will help couples from all over the world secure their love and leave a memory here.”
The locks are inspired by the Pont des Arts, a famous bridge on which couples previously placed locks in honor of their love, in Paris.
“We are excited to revive this romantic gesture here in Detroit, the Paris of the Midwest, for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Shinola Creative Director Daniel Caudill said in a press release.
