The D-Town Farm offers Detroiters access to affordable vegetables by selling fresh produce at markets around the city. Unfortunately, thieves stole an estimated $6,000 worth of farm and lawn equipment after cutting through two heavy duty locks.
"We get a tremendous amount of love," said Malik Yakini, executive director of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network, who runs the seven-acre farm in Detroit's Rouge Park.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters they've been able to replace the stolen equipment, which included lawnmowers and generators.
But Yakini told 7 Action News that their goal now is to raise enough money to install cameras and other security measures.
