New police dashcam footage shows the moment a Macomb County Sheriff’s deputy was struck by a drunk driver in Washington Township early Saturday morning.
Investigators said a 27-year-old Sterling Heights woman ran a red light and struck the deputy at an intersection.
The woman was driving a 2010 Ford Edge westbound on 29 Mile Road when she struck the deputy traveling south on VanDyke.
The passenger in the woman’s vehicle was not injured. Police said the driver had a BAC of .12.
The deputy, a veteran of the department, was taken to the hospital and released. His K-9 partner was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, but was not injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
