DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is offering a $500 reward after finding a dog abandoned on the side of the road Wednesday night.

The shelter says the dog was found crammed into a small dog cage along with a feeder, dishes and dog toys.

Around 9 p.m. Wednesday night, a Good Samaritan saw the dog, removed it from the cage and called the police. The dog was then taken to the shelter in Dearborn, where he is in good condition. The shelter has named him Cypress.

Abandonment of a pet is a misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a $500 fine and 30 days in jail.
