A Dearborn police officer accused of improperly touching a woman during a traffic stop in May was arraigned on criminal sexual conduct charges today.

Dearborn police officer Justin Smith is facing charges of second degree criminal sexual conduct and common law offenses.

Smith has been suspended from the department without pay for the court proceedings.

“The Dearborn Police Department is committed to remaining completely transparent in matters of this nature and we will continue to do that during the course of this investigation. An on-going internal investigation is underway and we will continue to monitor the criminal case in court,” said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad in a news release.

Smith's probable cause hearing is set for September 2 and his preliminary hearing is expected to be held September 9.
