DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Traffic is diverted in Dearborn tonight after a crash involving a car and a cop car. The crash happened while police were responding to an arrest.

The incident happened at the intersection of Ford and Schaeffer Wednesday evening.

Police are still working to figure out exactly what happened. But what we know so far is that according to Dearborn police, someone who is a suspect in a major crime that happened earlier today in the city, was pulled over and getting arrested.

Due to the severity of the crime, other officers were backing up that traffic stop. Heading to the stop, just a few blocks away, one unmarked police car went through the intersection at Joy and Schaefer and was t-boned by what looked to be a black Cadillac Escalade.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad says he hasn't found out whether his officer had his sirens on while approaching the scene before the crash.

"Obviously the lights are going right now, but again we are going to have a complete a thorough investigation to determine what took place here further," Haddad said.

The police officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be OK. The driver of the Cadillac is also expected to be OK.
