Man driving electric scooter hit by car, killed in Madison Heights

Madison Heights police say a man driving an electric scooter was hit by a car and killed early Monday morning.

According to police, the crash happened on southbound Dequindre near Parkview around 5 a.m. Monday. Both directions of Dequindre are closed at 11 Mile while police conduct an investigation.

Police say the man was driving the scooter and then fell off of it. Police aren't sure what caused the man, described as a black male in his 60s, to fall off the scooter.

A nurse from nearby St. John Oakland Hospital witnessed the accident and called 911. She also attended to the man before emergency crews arrived.

We're told the driver of the SUV involved in the crash did stop at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Police are working to identify the man.

Madison Heights police say Dequindre Rd. is closed at 11 Mile after a man driving a motorized scooter was hit by a car.

The crash happened on southbound Dequindre near Parkview on Monday morning, and both directions are closed. 

It appears that the car involved in the crash did stop at the scene.

Right now, it's not clear what condition the person is in, or how long the road will be closed.
