A new coworking space just opened in Detroit aimed at helping foster business growth in the city.

The program is part of Lawrence Technological University’s Detroit Center for Design and Technology, which is nestled right on the corner of Woodward and Willis in Midtown.

The building, owned by Midtown Detroit, Inc., has a number of other tenants -- creating a collaborative experience for students and businesses alike.

DCDT Incubator Director Christopher Stefani stopped by Broadcast House Tuesday morning to talk about the progress of the center and its new coworking program.

"We kind of have three tracks of program going on there, our educations studios, our exhibition schedules and our economy initiative. We've worked really hard to engage community partners, community organizations, Detroit Public Schools...we're really trying to bring everything into the center and make a mark in Detroit," said Stefani.

The center's coworking space, a place where people can gather away from their home office, just opened in January.

While there are a number of coworking spaces in the Detroit area including Bamboo Detroit and Junction440, Stefani says the DCDT program fosters a unique environment.

"I think it's the connection between our students and our programs," he said."The alignment between the academy and the profession and...the crossover and the interesting work that happens there."

DCDT Cowork can hold about 20 to 30 people and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with the exception of holidays. Guests will have access to WiFi, projector/TV, print lab, mail service and conference rooms.

There are drop-in and partnership rates starting at $25 per day.
