A Detroit creamery has issued a recall of its ice cream after discovering a possible health risk, according to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Reilly Craft Creamery is pulling its Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and Choc Choc Chuck Ice Cream off the shelves because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

If consumed, the bacteria can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Symptoms include: high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness and nausea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

The ice cream was distributed to four grocery stores in southeast Michigan and one in Ann Arbor:

  • The Farmer's Hand, Detroit
  • Western Market, Ferndale
  • Fairfax Quality Market, Grosse Pointe Park
  • Fresh Farms Market, Grosse Pointe
  • Eat Local Eat Natural, Ann Arbor

The products were also sold online here

Consumers who have purchased the ice cream since March 2018 should return them immediately for a full refund. The product is packaged in paper pint cartons with the product number on the bottom of the container.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream was produced on July 31, 2018; product code: 073118-1.

Choc Choc Chunk Ice Cream was produced on July 5, 2018; product code: 0470518-1.

No illnesses have been reported at this time, according to the state department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
