Detroit firefighters have been busy dealing with dozens of fires over the last 24 hours.

Crews are saying that many of them were caused by fireworks or arson with a few exceptions.

One of those happened at a Detroit home, where a fire was caused by a malfunctioning electrical transformer. DTE Energy says the equipment belongs to the Detroit Lighting Department.

That fire destroyed a garage and 3 cars and traveled throw a power line to the home next door.

One of the owners of the home says the transformer caught fire three years ago. Other neighbors say they have reached out to the city for help since then out of concern about the equipment.

A spokesperson for the city's lighting department says they have no recent work orders for the power pole.

Fire officials tell 7 Action News that they consider July 4 busier than Devil's Night. They say some of the battalions couldn't even get adequate rest in between calls.
