DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Institute of Arts is offering adventures and games designed for children and families to banish winter break boredom.
From Dec. 26 to Jan. 4, excluding New Year's Day, the DIA will feature free "Holiday Break Family Fun! Gallery Adventures and Games."
“The DIA provides one-of-a-kind access to history and cultures your child cannot experience in a book, on TV or online,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “By visiting the DIA, children have a unique opportunity to build connections and learn from a diverse array of people, ideas, civilizations and cultures.”
Gallery teachers will provide free pop-up tours and engagement activities for children and families from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The schedule includes:
- Wednesday, Dec. 26 – American gallery
- Thursday, Dec. 27 – Contemporary gallery
- Friday, Dec. 28 – Dutch gallery
- Saturday, Dec. 29 – French gallery
- Sunday, Dec. 30 – Native American gallery
- New Year’s Day – Closed
- Wednesday, Jan. 2 – American gallery
- Thursday, Jan. 3 – Contemporary gallery
- Friday, Jan. 4 – Dutch gallery
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the DIA will offer games in Prentis Court near Artie the Donkey. The kid-tested games feature takeaway games that kids can play within the museum.
General museum admission is free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
The museum will be open for extended hours until Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Dec. 31, it will be open from 10 am. to 5 p.m.
