Lawrence James Davis has been charged with Open Murder and is currently at large.
According to a release from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, the victim, identified as 24-year-old Tyler Wingate, and his passenger were driving northbound on Livernois Avenue when they crashed into another vehicle. Wingage and his passenger exited the vehicle and walked into the gas station parking lot.
Prosecutors say that Davis allegedly struck Wingate in the head, and after Wingate fell, continued to strike him and kick him. Davis then reportedly ran away from the scene.
Officers arrived and found Wingate lying on the ground unresponsive in the parking lot of the gas station. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The community of Berkley is mourning Wingate's death, with his family pleading that Davis turn himself in to authorities.
"Lawrence James Davis I am speaking directly to you. We know you're out there and we know you are watching and I want you to see the damage you done not only to our family but the community itself," his brother said.
