DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit man pleaded guilty to charges of sex trafficking in the Detroit area.
Jhamall K. McGaughy, 37, admitted that he conspired with others to force and coerce at least six women to engage in prostitution in the Detroit area.
According to court records, McGaughy admitted that he recruited women he knew struggled with drug addictions and used that addiction for his profit. McGaughy reportedly gave drugs to them at first, including heroin and crack cocaine, but then required them to work as prostitutes in order to get money to buy more drugs from him.
Court records report that McGaughy allegedly knew the women would suffer from withdrawal symptoms if they did not receive regular doses of drugs. He allegedly also used force against some of the women if they tried to buy drugs from other suppliers.
McGaughy is looking at a minimum of 10 years in federal prison. He will be sentenced on May 5.
