(WXYZ) — The Department of Transportation will be awarding $1,957,480 to Detroit Metropolitan Airport for improvements, U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced.
The grant is supplemented by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act to support airports affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funds will go towards infrastructure improvements, including the purchase of two zero-emissions shuttle buses and associated charging infrastructure.
“This investment will make traveling to and from Metro Detroit safer and more efficient,” Senator Stabenow said in a press release. “Safe and reliable air travel will also help encourage businesses to invest in the region and create jobs.”
“Detroit Metro Airport is a world-class airport and a major hub for logistics, transportation and commerce in Michigan and our country,” Senator Peters said in a press release. “I’m pleased to announce this grant, which will incorporate clean energy technologies for airport operations.”
