DETROIT (WXYZ) — Not everyone has something to eat or someone to eat with this Thanksgiving.
That’s why — for a second year in a row — the Detroit Restaurant Lodging Association and the Detroit Shipping Company hosted the “Full Plates, Full Hearts” event.
“We have to be thankful for the blessings we have and so we have to carry on those blessings to people that are in need of them," said Chef Drakopoulos of Brujo Tacos & Tappas.

Two restaurants have been cooking to serve up some traditional Turkey Day dishes and some nontraditional meals as well.
“We are doing lamb chops with garlic Parmesan butter, I’ve got some candies yams, I also have some fresh baguettes that are being seared off with some honey butter," said Chef Drakopoulos.
Last year the served a little more than 100 meals — this year’s goal is 150.
“It’s not just about food," said Chef Drakopoulos. "Food's the reason why you come and do something but the auxiliary of it is the reason what touches our hearts.”
The organizers reached out to nonprofit groups to let them know about the event.
And diners don’t leave empty handed. Volunteers are giving out bags filled with toiletries and winter apparel.

“It’s not just one day, it’s everyday in the year and just this is the common day we get to show our appreciation," Chef Drakopoulos said.
