Detroit police car crashes into church after collision with civilian driver

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Police are investigating an officer-involved vehicle accident that led to a patrol car crashing into a church in Detroit.

On Oct. 9, patrol officers from the 7th precinct were driving south on Garland near E. Warren around 8 p.m. when they collided in the intersection with a 29-year-old man driving a Pontiac G6. He was traveling east on E. Warren, police say.

According to DPD, the impact caused the scout car to crash into a church.

Medics responded to the scene and took both officers and the driver of the Pontiac to a local hospital. The officers and the civilian driver suffered non-life threatening injuries. The 29-year-old driver was listed in temp serious condition. The officers were listed in stable condition, one of the officers has since been discharged, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
