DETROIT (WXYZ) -- Police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old girl on Detroit's east side.
The baby was found unresponsive while sleeping with her parents at the Bali Motel, investigators say.
"She comes out and open the door and says, 'Call 911. My baby's not breathing,'" motel owner Chetan Patel said.
He said paramedics showed up to the motel on 8 Mile near Dequindre Street within minutes and rushed the infant to Children's Hospital. Police say she had passed away at the motel.
Crime scene technicians and the homicide unit processed the scene, which is standard protocol in a death investigation.
However, it's still a shock to Patel and his wife who say they have children of their own and that the affected family has stayed at the motel a few other times.
Patel said, "It's just very surprising like that. It's never happened here before."
"Feeling sad, a little bit. Baby's so small," he said.
The baby's cause of death is not known at this time. Detroit police say the Child Abuse Unit is also investigating, which is standard protocol.
