Detroit Police need your help to provide essentials to first responders in the disaster areas in Texas.

From 10 a.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Thursday, they are asking the public to help them fill a semi truck that officers will then take to first responders in the affected areas, where many first responders have been working around the clock.

The list of items needed include deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, feminine hygiene products, soap, body wash, underwear, undershirts, socks, bottled water and mosquito repellent.

"It seems like a small thing for us who are not living through a tragedy, but it's a big thing for them," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

Officers will be manning the semi for the 48 hours it's parked in front of police headquarters on Third Avenue near Michigan Avenue in downtown Detroit for people to stop by, day or night, to drop off donations.

You'll be able to drive up and drop off any donation to the officers on site.

Monetary donations will also be accepted to purchase additional supplies for the first responders.

You can also make a donation online through the Detroit Public Safety Foundations website at
www.detroitpublicsafety.org/donate.

You can also donate items at Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers will have drop off bins at gates A, B and C at their games on September 1 through Labor Day. The bins will be available outside the gates from the time the gates open until the second inning.

You do not need a ticket to donate at the game. Just look for the Detroit Police officers near the bins.
