A driver reversed his car, nearly hitting Detroit police officers, while trying to escape during a traffic stop overnight.
It all happened at Margareta and Steel between 7 Mile and Curtis on the city's west side.
The frightening moments played out less than a week after an officer was hit and killed while assisting at a crash.
Police say they pulled the driver over for a traffic violation and he initially complied. But then, police say, he hopped out of his car, reached for his waistband, and then jumped back into his car and floored it in reverse.
That's when he nearly struck the officers. Police fired shots at the suspect as he drove away, but did not hit the driver.
The driver ended up crashing into a stop sign just north of 7 Mile in his attempt to get away and was arrested, police say.
