Detroit police search for masked gunmen armed with AK-47, handgun after overnight shooting

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police are investigating three shootings that happened overnight in the city.

Here is the preliminary information from the Detroit Police Department.

Arrest made in fatal shooting on 17100 block of Harper

On Dec. 21 around ‪1:18 a.m., a 29-year-old male victim and 26-year-old suspect had an argument in the 17100 block of Harper.

Police say during the argument, the victim pulled out a handgun, allegedly pointed it at the suspect and fired at him. None of the bullets hit the suspect. The suspect then took out his handgun and allegedly returned fire, striking the victim.

The victim was privately taken to the hospital where he was pronounced decease.

The suspect was placed into custody at the scene and his handgun was also recovered, according to police.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Non-fatal shooting in the 4700 block of Somerset Avenue

On Dec. 21, 2019 around 1:15 a.m., the 23-year-old male victim was returning home when a white Ford Taurus pulled up in the 4700 block of Somerset Avenue.

The suspects got out of the vehicle, approached the victim and demanded his items. The victim complied, but the suspects demanded more, according to police. One of the suspects then fired a shot, striking the victim.

A witness and CPL holder was alerted to the incident, came out of the home and allegedly fired shots at the suspects. Police say they fled eastbound on Cornwall Street, unsure if the shots made contact.

Medics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspects were described wearing black masks, one armed with an AK-47, the other with a handgun, police say.

The circumstances of this incident are still being investigated.

Non-fatal shooting in area of Fullerton and Washburn

On Dec. 20 around 8:45 p.m., a 29-year-old male victim and witnesses were in the area of Fullerton and Washburn, when a Black Chevy SUV passed them then stopped, according to witnesses. The victim got out of the vehicle and exchanged words with the occupants of the black SUV, police say.

One of the occupants then exited the vehicle and allegedly fired shots at the victim, striking him, according to police. The victim was privately taken to the hospital and listed in temp serious condition.

Right now, there is no suspect in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
