DPD searching for suspect in shooting of girl

Posted

Detroit police have released surveillance video showing a car suspected to be involved in the shooting death of a 7-year-old girl and shooting of an 8-year-old girl.

According to police, the light-colored 2000 Chevy Impala is missing a rear driver side hubcab and is seen in the video above.

Police say the car pulled up in front of the home in the 16800 block of Steel St. and opened fire. 7-year-old Chanell Berry and 8-year-old Ellen Garjo were playing outside and shot. Chanell later died at the hospital.

The shooting happened on Dec. 27, and one day later, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said they had two people in custody related to the shooting.

It's not clear what caused the shooting, but police believe there was some sort of argument earlier in the day between Chanell's uncle, his ex-girlfriend and his current girlfriend.
