A multi-state manhunt is on for a 25-year-old with a criminal history so long that the U.S. Attorney is joining the case.

Ernest Cargile is a top fugitive on the Detroit One list, and police say he’s in our community, armed and dangerous.

“Ernest Cargile is wanted by the Detroit Police Department for a recent shooting, he’s also wanted by the Livonia Police Department for drug charges and furthermore he’s wanted out of the state of Ohio, Delaware County for another gun and drug charges out there,” Deputy U.S. Marshal Aaron Garcia, DFAT supervisor said.

Garcia said the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

“Who referred the case to us because this guy is a complete menace to society, his criminal history is through the roof,” Garcia said.

At just 25 years old, he’s become priority one with multi-state manhunt to find him.

“No stranger to law enforcement, I’m counting 18 or 19 prior arrests. This guy is a trouble maker, he’s on the Detroit One Priority and that is the worst people causing issues in the City of Detroit,” Garcia said.

Most recently Cargile is accused of shooting into a crowd in June on Detroit’s west side.

“Just strictly no regard for the law, his sister gets in a dispute with somebody,” Garcia said.  “They came back with her brother, who is our fugitive, our target, he comes and just shoots in and opens fire in an open crowd of people.”

It happened at 11:30 in the morning and police say Cargile did everything he could to take out his targets.

“There was somebody holding a young child which was about one year old at the house, rounds start going down range into this crowd, the intended targets get into the vehicle, take off, he’s shooting at the car at a high rate of speed,” Garcia said.

The U.S. Marshals say when it came time for Cargile’s sister to stand trial for the incident, there were accusations of witness intimidation. Police say those victims fear Cargile will come back and finish the job.

“He missed this time but next time the victim might not be so lucky,” Garcia said.

Ernest Cargile is 6’1” and 170 pounds and believed to be on the move to stay at large.

“Cargile has ties to the west side of Detroit and also the Toledo, Ohio area, he floats back and forth,” Garcia said.

Now police need your help to track him down before it’s too late.

“We believe he is armed, he is dangerous and he is a flight risk and he probably would try to flee just like he did in the past,” Garcia said.

As always, there’s a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of Ernest Cargile.  You can call the U.S. Marshals anytime at (313) 234-5656.
