DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit teachers and students will be protesting in support of the Detroit Federation of Teachers safety strike.
They will be holding a car and picket protest outside of the Fisher Building on Monday at noon.
Bates Academy, a Detroit elementary school, announced it will be going completely virtual to start the new year. Protesters say if one school can start online, the whole district should.
Ellie St. Clair, a DPSCD parent, said, “We are not prepared for face-to-face classrooms. There is no way we can keep these kids safe in these schools. Nothing is worse than death.”
In an overwhelming majority, the Detroit Teachers Union voted to authorize a potential strike, as negotiations continue.
