DETROIT (WXYZ) — After making a full recovery from coronavirus, a Detroit woman got an emotional release from staff members at Beaumont Grosse Pointe.

At 61 years old, Tonia Brown describes herself as a woman of faith. She says her recovery from COVID-19 had a lot to do with that, and showed the bond between patient and caretakers.

Surrounded by nurses and other healthcare professionals, Brown was helped out of Beaumont after spending several days being treated for coronavirus.

“I feel great. Every day is good. I’m still fatigued and in quarantine, but I feel good.” Brown said.

Less than two weeks ago, she began to feel symptoms of coronavirus.

“I started developing a high fever, nausea, bad headache. I was nervous and scared, not knowing if I’d come back or not.” Brown said.

She found the courage to go to the hospital. When she got there, she learned she also had pneumonia.

Remarkably, only a few days later, her treatment made a dramatic impact.

“I just started crying when he said I could go home,” Brown said

Brown also got a surprise, as the song “Here Comes The Sun” by The Beatles played as she was exiting the hospital. There were handmade signs and a group photo that was taken with nurses.

With that, her April 11 release was completed and a symbol of what can happen with caring and compassionate treatment.

“I just want to thank them for the speedy recovery and helping me through this. I really appreciate it,” Brown said.

With no underlying conditions, she continues to regain strength from home.
