Developer plans 1K apartments near QLine

Developers are buying up land around the QLine. One developer has plans to grow the residential and retail community along the rail.

Developer Peter Cummings said, "The passion for the city of Detroit. There is something about Detroit and the spirit of Detroit that captivates people."

That's why he is planting the seeds to grow a more vibrant city.

Cummings announced a residential and commercial project called "The Platform."

It includes different locations in Midtown, New Center and TechTown.

The project will create 1,000 apartments and various retail space within walking distance of the Q-line.

A few locations have been named, including the Kahn building, Baltimore & Woodward Avenue and Third Avenue & West Grand Boulevard.

Cummings has been active in trying to rebuild the city.

"I have an attachment to Detroit that goes beyond economics for me. It has to do with my belief in the city and the people and the spirit of it."

The first phase of the project is converting a  parking lot at Third Avenue and Grand Boulevard into a building with hundreds of apartments.

Ground breaking for this is set for this Fall.
