District hosts public meeting on future of Detroit Public Schools

Posted

Residents in Detroit will get their first chance to learn about the future of Detroit Public Schools.

The district is hosting a public meeting at Renaissance High School.

DPS Transition Manager Judge Steven Rhodes will be joined by interim superintendent Alycia Meriweather and several state representatives.

Their goal - to give everyone who attends tonight an update to what is next for the district as they move through the summer months and prepare for the fall.

We've learned they will provide some insight on the fiscal year 2017 budget for the new community district. Interim superintendent Meriweather will talk about academics, too.

This public meeting comes on the heels of the massive $617 million bail-out package signed by Governor Rick Snyder on Tuesday.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m.
