Doctor Farid Fata is serving 45 years behind bars for treating people for cancer when they didn't have the disease
But he also profited from patients in their final days.
Vitas Health Corporation Midwest-- a hospice provider-- paid kickbacks to Fata in exchange for patient referrals, according to federal prosecutors.
From 2012 to 20-14, Vitas paid more than $15,000 to Swan for Life Cancer Foundation-- a charity run by Fata.
Vitas has agreed to a $200,000 settlement to resolve the case.
Victims of Fata are shocked, but not surprised that he also took advantage of patients in their final days.
"It's unbelievable but it's believable," said Patty Hestor.
