(WXYZ) — In a tweetstorm Thursday evening, President Donald Trump turned his attention back on former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, calling him a "disaster" and "very bad governor overall."

The president's comments referenced the 2014 Flint Water Crisis, an ongoing public health concern where the drinking water source for Flint was found to be contaminated. Back in April 2014, the city changed its water source from the treated Detroit Water and Sewerage Department to the Flint River – all under Snyder's governance.

"Failed RINO former Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan was a disaster with respect to the Flint Water CATASTROPHE, and a very bad Governor overall," Trump tweeted. "He hurt so many people with his gross incompetence. He reminds me of Sleepy Joe!"

His tweets are similar to a Twitter rant from September, after Snyder, a Republican, announced his endorsement for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

In response, the former Michigan governor blasted President Donald Trump in an op-ed for the Detroit Free Press.

Snyder explained that he has remained a lifelong Republican and will still support Republican candidates, but will not support the president.

"President Trump lacks a moral compass. He ignores the truth," Snyder wrote after calling Trump a bully.
