Detroit Police are confirming that an internal affairs investigation has been launched involving a member of the department’s 11th precinct and possible criminal sexual conduct.
DPD Chief James Craig said the alleged victim called several times to report the allegations and told police she was concerned for her safety -- but details of the case remain hazy.
Craig said the initial report was on Feb. 15. A woman called or came to the 11th precinct to report a harassment. The following day, the victim made an an anonymous call ( police have caller ID) to report a possible sexual assault. The woman also expressed concern for her safety and well-being, said Craig.
The complaint was turned over to internal affairs, and police have made several attempts to contact the woman with no avail, according to Craig.
"We treat all allegations as serious but we have to be able to talk to the complainant or victim," said Craig during a news conference.
Several officers, along with internal affairs, went to the woman's home but were only able to speak with her briefly from a second-floor window. She refused to come out and speak with officers, said Craig.
Craig added that two certified letters asking the woman to file an affidavit were sent to her and several calls were made.
The officer has not been suspended or removed from his post.
