12-year-old hit by DPD cruiser, 2nd cruiser hits pole responding to scene

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police say two cruiser have been involved in separate, but linked accidents on the city's east side.

The first scene is at 7 Mile and Harper. Police say a cruiser that was involved in a chase hit a 12-year-old boy who was crossing the street.He was taken to St. John Hospital in Temporary Serious condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Family members say the boy is Ray Truelove.

They say the boy is okay, with bruises and scrapes. He is expected to be okay.

The family says his mother recently passed away.

The second scene is at 7 Mile and Gratiot. That's where a DPD cruiser that was rushing to the scene of the first accident crashed into a pole, bringing down power lines.

Both officers were hurt in the crash and taken to the hospital. Their exact conditions aren't known. However, their injuries are not being called life threatening.
