DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit police officer was injured during a traffic stop when another vehicle struck his cruiser Thursday afternoon in the 14500 block of Gratiot near Lappin.

The crash happened around 2:40 p.m.

While the officer was conducting the stop, another vehicle driven by a woman crashed into the rear-end of the officer's cruiser. There were drugs recovered from the driver's car, police say, and the woman was taken into police custody for Violation of Substance Control Action (VSCA).

The officer was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. He's awake, walking and talking, according to a DPD spokesperson. No other injuries were reported.
