DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Public Schools Community District Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti took to Twitter to give condolences to the family of a Pershing High School junior who died in a car crash early Tuesday morning.
Today we lost a junior from Pershing. His name is Ga’heime Griffin. His mother allowed us to release his name. He has 4 siblings at the school. He passed away this morning in a car accident at 2 am—he and two other juniors at Pershing were driving home from work at McDonald’s.

Ga'heime Griffin was with two other Pershing juniors on their way home from working at McDonald's when they got into a car crash. Griffin died from his injuries. The two other students are in critical but stable condition.
"I personally knew Ga’heime," Sup. Vitti wrote. "He was a student who attended my student leadership council meetings. He was a beautiful young man who was already a leader. JROTC and athlete. He was everything we want our young men to be."
Griffin had four siblings at the school as well, Vitti said.
"Pershing, our district, the city, and the world lost a special young man today," Vitti added. "If you didn’t know him then I promise you that you would have by the time he reached his 20s. Media, please tell everyone about Ga’heime."
