DETROIT (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police are investigating a serious traffic crash on Southfield Freeway overnight.
On July 24 around 12:45 a.m., troopers responded to northbound Southfield Freeway near 7 Mile in Detroit for a critical injury crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the female driver entered the freeway from the 7 Mile entrance ramp after passing a DFD fire engine at a high rate of speed. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and struck with median wall.
The vehicle then bounced off the median wall and collided with concrete shoulder wall, MSP says.
The occupants in the vehicle were not wearing seat belts. The driver has critical injuries and the passenger sustained serious injuries.
According to MSP, they were taken by DFD EMS to a local hospital.
The freeway was closed for the on-scene investigation.
