WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 38-year-old mother has been arrested after driving while intoxicated with children in the car in White Lake Township, police say.
On Feb. 10 around 2:04 a.m., an officer noticed a driver drifiting lanes in the area of Elizabeth Lake Road and Williams Lake Road. The driver then made a left turn through a red light. The vehicle continued to swerve on the roadway, and the officer pulled over the vehicle.
The officer approached the vehicle and saw the Oak Park mother had "glassy bloodshot eyes, and lethargic movement." According to the officer, the car smelled of burnt marijuana and alcohol.
A 4-year-old girl identified as the woman's niece and an 8-year-old identified as her daughter, were inside the vehicle. The children were not in booster seats, police say.
The woman admitted to the officer she had consumed alcohol and used marijuana the previous evening. She failed the field sobriety test and had .126 BAC. Police say the woman also had a suspended driver's license.
She was placed under arrest and taken to the Oakland County Jail. The children were turned over to another family member.
Oakland County prosecutors will seek charges of operating while intoxicated, child endangerment and driving while license suspended.
