(WXYZ) — DTE Energy is telling customers they no longer need to reduce their electricity usage due to the extreme cold weather hitting metro Detroit.

The company said their natural gas and electric systems are operating as planned, as they had over the previous few days.

Consumers Energy is still asking their customers to keep their thermostats around 65 degrees until Friday at noon to help conserve natural gas.

"While we are no longer asking our customers to reduce use of electricity to support the regional electric grid, we know severe weather can cause stress on our customers and their budgets, so we have been providing tips on how to manage energy use and stay safe during this record-setting cold," the company said.
