(WXYZ) — Nearly 6,000 meals were prepared in Detroit for homebound seniors through Meals on Wheels.
It was a group effort to make sure no senior goes hungry on Christmas Day.
"It's Christmas, we got to give," said DTE employee Mary Johnson. "Somebody has got to do it, so let's do it."
Turkey, sweet potatoes and green beans were all packaged with care to send to 6,000 homebound seniors in Detroit.
Across Michigan, 400 DTE employees will help make 20,000 meals be delivered on Christmas Day.
"We've always been a community, and this is just an example of why we have to work together and enjoy each other," said employee George Gomez.
There were actually so many people that wanted to help in the effort and give back on Christmas, there was actually a line for people waiting to make the meals.
It takes months of planning to get to this point, with some of the work beginning in June or July.
This is the 10th year DTE has teamed up with "Meals on Wheels."
