ROMULUS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Transportation Security Administration Officers spotted an object that resembled a grenade Thursday evening, causing a standstill in the north terminal at Detroit Metro Airport.

Arriving flights were redirected and departing flights were halted during the investigation, with travelers tweeting pictures of crowds awaiting answers.

According to a spokeswoman for DTW, the grenade-like object was spotted inside an individuals bag. As a precaution, passenger screening at TSA was stopped.

Officers were eventually able to locate the owner of the bag, who turned out to be an active service member.

TSA was able to confirm that the item was an inert grenade, or a "dummy" grenade. There was a K9 sweep of the area and activity resumed at the airport.
