INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — An 83-year-old man and a 29-year-old healthcare worker are in the hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Independence Township Thursday night, according to police.

Employees from the Clarkston Specialty Healthcare Center were attempting to assist the elderly man, who was in a wheelchair, out of the roadway and back inside the facility when he, along with one of the employees, was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Clintonville Road.

The vehicle did not stop and continued northbound, police say.

Police describe the vehicle as a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo with some type of red writing on the front of the vehicle. Police say the vehicle should have damage to the front passenger side and possibly a faulty rear tail light.

The 83-year-old is in critical condition and the 29-year-old is in stable condition.

Anyone has information about the crash is asked to contact the Oakland County Sheriff's Office at 1-888-TURN-1-IN or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
