(WXYZ) — Music legend Elton John is postponing his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour amid the COVID-19 outbreak. That includes back-to-back shows scheduled for Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on May 1-2.

The tour was expected to kick off on March 26 in Indianapolis and travel across the country throughout the spring.

Event organizers announced that the shows will be rescheduled to 2021, but the May 22 - July 8 shows are scheduled to continue.

"This tough decision has been made with the safety and well-being of his fans put to the fore, at a time when health services are under increased pressure and with the concern that these gatherings risk accelerating the spread of the Coronavirus," organizers said.

Ticketholders of the postponed performances will get new event information shortly and all original tickets will be honored at the rescheduled performances.
