DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit fire crews have rescued a worker inside a massive trench in the backyard of a home on the city's east side.
Crews responded Monday afternoon to a home near University Place and Minerva, which is off I-94 between Moross and Cadiuex.
The victim, who is in his 50s, was buried up to his chest when the trench partially collapsed. He was attempting to put in a water or sewer line behind the home.
His injuries are currently unknown but he will be treated for hypothermia.
Authorities say the man was awake and conscious as emergency crews were continuing to pull him from the trench without further disrupting the area. By Monday evening, the man was freed from the trench and taken to a local hospital.
