Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh has been sentenced to 5 1/2-15 years in prison for having sex with a minor more than a decade ago.

Late last month, Pugh pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct, possibly looking to avoid life in prison.

A couple of weeks ago, Pugh admitted that he'd had sex with a then 14-year-old Austin Williams. Pugh was arrested back in June.

Williams is now 28 years old. He first met Pugh while he was a news anchor at Fox 2. Williams says his own healing has come with some counseling and a lot of self therapy.

Along with being sentenced to 5 1/2 to 15 years in prison, Pugh must be on the sex offender registry for life,
receive sex offender counseling and not have any unsupervised contact with minors.

Pugh apologized for his actions in court today.

"I want to start out by apologizing to Austin Williams and his family for violating his trust," said Pugh. "I accept full responsibility."
