Former Michigan State University basketball star Keith Appling has pleaded guilty to charges in connection to a traffic stop incident in August of 2016.

Appling accepted the plea deal agreement which includes five years of probation with the first year spent in the Wayne County Jail, according to the prosecutor's office.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy originally charged Appling with fleeing and eluding third degree, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing police and felony firearm.

Today, Appling pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and resisting and obstructing a police officer. The other charges were dismissed.

Detroit police say officers pulled over Appling at Russell and E. Seven Mile in 2016. After initially stopping in his 2013 blue Dodge Challenger, police say he fled and tossed a handgun out the window.

His sentencing is scheduled for August 3, 2017.
