FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Farmington Hills Fire Department will offer free car seat inspections for families in April.

Certified child safety seat technicians will be on-hand to check restraints for proper installation and possible recalls as well as demonstrate how to place car seats inside vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 75 percent of children are riding in safety seats that are not properly installed or do not fit securely.

The inspection is scheduled for Sunday, April 7 from 8 a.m. to noon at Fire Station #4 on 28711 Drake Road. Those interested in an inspection must make an appointment at swest@fhgov.com or call (248) 871-2800.

Car seat inspections are free and take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete. Participants do not have to be Farmington Hills residents.
