60-year-old woman dies in WB I-94 crash Friday

ROMULUS, Mich. (WXYZ) — The westbound lanes of I-94 near metro airport have reopened following a fatal crash involving a semi truck.

The crash happened Friday afternoon on westbound I-94 at Merriman Road in Romulus and caused all lanes to close, according to Michigan State Police.

All lanes were closed at Ecorse Road.

Drivers experienced delays during rush hour and were detoured to I-275 in order to get to metro airport.

According to MSP, a car was being driven eastbound on Wick Road by a 60-year-old woman from Taylor. Officers say the woman failed to follow the curve and drove through a fence and ditch an onto the freeway where she was traveling east on the westbound lanes.

The woman's vehicle struck the rear of a semi trailer, causing significant damage to her vehicle resulting in a fatality. The family of the victim has not yet been notified, according to a Tweet by MSP.

This is an ongoing investigation.
