(WXYZ) — Ferndale novelist Josh Malerman has written the sequel to his novel "Bird Box," that was made into a Netflix film and released in December 2018.
In an interview with Esquire, Malerman said the book, "Malorie," will be released on October 1 and will take place eight years after the events of the first book.
“The 'Bird Box' world is Malorie’s story, and I wanted to know more about her," he said. "I wanted to get to know her even better.”
The "Bird Box" movie featured an all-star cast, including Sandra Bullock.
“I don’t think I was prepared for the movie to be this good. It’s almost like watching a fantasy of yours being like filled in the colors, the details, being filled in in front of you. I’m just super grateful for everything that is happening,” Malerman said to WXYZ in an earlier interview.
It spawned viral memes and a social media challenge that prompted comments from law enforcement.
The movie had a plot where people were forced to wear blindfolds to prevent them from being possessed by demons and prey on their worst fears. In the social media challenge, people were blindfolding themselves, some behind the wheel of a car.
