SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Firefighters in Shelby Township had difficulty putting out a fire at a home earlier Thursday morning.

While responding to the home on Mayfair near Shelby Road, firefighters immediately saw heavy smoke and flames.

They tried to go through the front door, but say they could not even get inside because there were things stacked 3 or 4 feet high.

"The problem is getting to the fire itself, gaining entry into the home, getting water to the proper areas of the fire," said Battalion Chief John McCoy. "Biggest thing is ventilating and now with all the heat, this doesn't help either."

Additional manpower had to be called as a result to make sure no one overheated.

Luckily, no one was home when the fire broke out and no one was injured. Right now, crews are investigating the cause.
