A fire has damaged a Detroit liquor store just days after an alleged altercation where a woman says she was attacked by the owner.

The fire happened at the Chalmer's Plus Liquor Store near Chalmers and Glenfield overnight.

Pauletta Jones said she was shopping when the clerk assaulted her.

"Just basically I came in to buy something and I was assaulted by the worker,” said Jones.

She had stitches on her head and lots of community members rallying around her.

Detroit Police said they are investigating but there is more to the story.

They said the clerk told them Jones was drunk, that Jones was attempting to steal something when she bit the clerk when he tried to stop her.

At this point there is no one in custody and there are no charges pending. Police said they will be reviewing surveillance video.

The fire happened around 1:30 a.m. as two store employees were inside. They say someone threw something in which sparked the blaze.

The store's owner believes the situation is to blame for his liquor store going up in flames. He also says his car was damaged earlier this week.
